We have retained tensions from every trauma we have ever experienced. All emotions go somewhere in the body, whether we are aware of it or not. Negative emotions that become stuck in the tissues can cause problems.

SomatoEmotional Release is a therapeutic process used in CranioSacral Therapy that facilitates the release of emotional energy stuck in the body as well as facilitating personal growth and health. It is “an ingenious tool for sorting out our lives and redesigning our futures,” says John Upledger, the founder of CST and SER.

By gently putting hands on your feet, knees, hips, ribs, shoulders, and head, as well as the energy field off your body, I can feel where there is movement or restriction. My hands can reflect and help release the fascial restrictions and energy cysts that are disrupting your body’s innate ability to heal itself.

Bodywork can bring up sensations, emotions, and memories, or restrictions can release with no content attached. Your body will let go what it is ready to let go of. Dialoguing can be used to facilitate the process, but nonverbal processing is also important. Sleep is common during the process as it elicits the parasympathetic nervous system response (the “rest, digest, and heal” phase). Bodywork is implicitly relaxing and healing.
