BODYWORK
CranioSacral Therapy is light-touch bodywork that facilitates self-healing by releasing restrictions in the fascia caused by physical or emotional stress or trauma.
SomatoEmotional Release is a therapeutic process used in CranioSacral Therapy that facilitates release of emotional energy stuck in the body.
The body keeps the score. Although the mind can move on from something, the body knows no sense of time and can hold on to past events as though they were current. As John Upledger (the founder of CST) says, “The negative emotions that become lodged in the tissues are the culprit in many cases of emotion-generated ailments. Emotions are designed to move through the body.”
I follow the inner wisdom of the body and let it guide my hands to facilitate the release of fascial restrictions and energy cysts, thereby releasing tension patterns and stuck energy, promoting the body’s innate ability to heal itself.
According to the Upledger Institute, where I received my training, SomatoEmotional Release “facilitates personal growth, helps us move from illness, unresolved issues and lack of potential, towards health and fulfillment, and is an ingenious tool for sorting out our lives and redesigning our futures.”
Hands on the body can bring up sensations, emotions, and memories, or restrictions can release with no content attached. The body lets go what it is ready to let go of. Dialoguing can be used to facilitate the process, but nonverbal processing is also important. Sleep is common during the process as it elicits the parasympathetic nervous system response (the “rest, digest, and heal” phase). Bodywork is implicitly relaxing and healing.
